Tensions between perceived ecological loss and ecological abundance in Western Canada create a generation affected by a specific form of climate grief. These relations to landscape must be addressed in local landscape architectural site inquiry, however normative methods are insufficient as they entirely avoid the emotional relations we have with land and non-humans. In this thesis I ask how landscape architects might contend with climate grief as a necessary and generative step of site research.

By exploring my own emotional relations to a cut block through embodied site research, I aim to operationalize non-normative methods while contending with my experiences of climate grief. These images depict my ongoing explorations.
